The personality instrumental of establishing Bhaberchar Health Complex is no less than the person known as Colonel (Retd.) Dr.M.Hasmat Ali,who by appropriating his high government post not only influenced to establish the complex expeditiously, but also donated money in purchasing the land for the complex.This contribution of him allowed the distressed peoples of Gazaria to obtain such a modern Health Complex at the door step.Beside he served the Gazaria Upazila Janakallyan Samity in the tenure of 1977-79 as chairman in fostering the object of the Samity in different aspect.
Colonel (Retd.) Dr. M.Hasmat Ali born on 1st November 1931 at Mathabhanga village of Gazaria union .His father was Al-haj Anwar Ali and mother Alfatunnesa. In his childhood he studied in Char Shahebani primary maqtab,Razdia Abhoya High School,Sirajdhigha,Munshiganj and passed matriculation examination in 1946 from Bhaberchar Wazir Ali High School under the Calcutta University.He passed I.Sc.from Haraganga Collage,Munshiganj in 1948 and admitted in Dhaka Medical Collage and obtained MBBS degree in 1953.
Colonel (Retd.) Dr. M.Hasmat Ali joined Pakistan Army Medical core in 1954 and completed in-job post-graduate course from Rawalpindi Armed forces Medical Collage and also completed Public Health course under Lahore University.He was promoted to the post of Leutinent Colonel on 8 June 1970 and later promoted to the post of full colonel in Bangladesh Army after the independence.On deputation, he served Mymensing Medical Collage in the post of Director (Superintendence); in the post of Director General of the Family planning Directorate in the capacity of Joint Secretary of the Government; in the post of Principal of the Dhaka Dental Collage; in the post of Director General (Programmer Development ) in NIPORT and finally again in the post of Director General of Family Planning Directorate.He went retirement from the Armed Forces service in the month of August 1983.
Later Colonel (Retd.) Dr.M.Hasmat Ali did Private practice for few years and subsequently joined as Director of Uttara Women Medical Collage and Hospital,Dhaka and continued for seven years in the said post and devotedly contributed to the said Medical collage, consequent to such of his contribution the said Medical collage became the only standard Medical Collage for the Women in the country.
During his tenure in the Family planning Directorate he established National Population Research & Training Institute,Azimpur,Dhaka and also established few Family welfare Training center in different places of the country.He,on his own capacity, employed about 2000 persons,including a number of Gazaria people, in the post of Family Planning Assistant.Due to his success in the family planning the rate of mothers at delivery stage and child mortality reduced in considerable quantity which obtained huge reputation and fame both in the country and abroad.He was a successful Family planner in Bangladesh.
Colonel (Retd.) M.Hasmat Ali is a social worker by nature and always serves the cause of the poor and distressed, specially of Gazaria. He has been a contributor to different educational institution and served as Chairman of the ad-hoq committee of Bhaberchar Girls High School and contributed in establishing the said school at the preliminary stage along with another Social worker of Gazaria Mr.Hafiz Ahmed of Poikkharpar.His contribution towards society is well recognized.
In recognition of the contribution of Colonel (Retd.) Dr. M.Hasmat Ali in the national level, enhancing the reputation of Gazaria, Gazaria Samity is proud of to award 'Gazaria Padak'to him.
