The Founder of Gazaria Upazila Janakallyan Samity


(Late) Mr.Siraj-ud-daula Khan, popularly known as Mr.S.D Khan  hailed from village Bhati Balakhi, under Hossendi Union,Gazaria, who was a British Government servant posted in Wrighters Building, the secretariate of British-Indian Government,later after returning to East Pakistan in the year 1948, roused up to the position of Secretary of the Ministry of Local Government,East Pakistan.
Gazaria Thana Janakallyan Samity was his brain child and as such he is the founder of that Samity in Calcutta in 1946 along with the the then resident of Calcutta Dr.Abdul Gaffar Khan MB (Cal),Md.Rajab Ali,Muhammad Hanif esqr etc.and  became the first secretary general of the Samity.  He was dedicated social worker and rendered his service in manifold way for the welfare of the underprivileged Gazaria people ,specially  through giving Gazaria people employment in the government service as much as his capacity permitted at that time.
He, being the Addl.Secretary of the Ministry of Local government unveiled the foundation stone of 'Dhanmondi Hawkers Market beside 'Dhaka New Market in 1963, where the said stone is still in display.From 1948 to 1963 He was the President of the Samity when immence welfare activity of the Samity ware spread out and the Samity was so popular among the Gazaria local people that ,it is reported by Jonab Md.Rajab Ali and the aged people of that time,that the peasents used to abstain from cultivating field in the afternoon to attend the General Meeting of the Samity held at the locality,where huge crowd, even climbing the tree, attended the meetings.He was so generous that no distressed man leave him without handfull of help of any kind.

Mr. SD Khan the resident of 210 Elephent Road,Dhaka,where he established his two storied residence in his 3 Bigha purchased land.He ,even at his aged life regularly offered ledership in the Samity till his eternal rest.He  passed away on 5th May 1979 and buried in the village of Bhati Balakhi ,but unfortunately his grave was washed away by river erosion in the year 2005,despite the step taken by the Gazaria Samity leaders to protect the same.His village home is now under the water of River Meghna.

 Mr.SD Khan was father of  three sons who were highly placed in their carrier, one of whom Mr.Sharif-ud-Doula Khan, retired as Secretary of the Ministry of Energy of the Government of Bangladesh.
